About George Howard - I have always been very passionate about health, fitness and an active lifestyle. I became very interested in how I could best train myself and so decided to develop my knowledge by studying Sport and Exercise Science at the University of Leeds. 

 

 

Throughout my life I have always been very passionate about health, fitness and an active lifestyle. Growing up I was incredibly active participating in a number of different sports and activities. I became very interested in how I could best train myself and so decided to develop my knowledge by studying Sport and Exercise Science at the University of Leeds. After University I started to develop an urge to participate in tough physical and mental challenges and so decided to cycle 3000 miles to Istanbul from home.

I have always had aspirations to join the Army as an Officer however after University I had a little hiccup and had to re-evaluate my options. I got hit by a taxi in London and put in a coma and hospital for a month. I had to learn how to read and write again but I made a very quick recovery and 8 months after my little bump on the head I ran my first Ultra marathon, which was 84 miles across Hadrian’s Wall that took 22hrs to complete. As a result of this I slipped into what I enjoyed most and started to personal train.

I am always looking to challenge myself and test my limits. It has become a bit like drug to push myself a little further. Hopefully some of my aspirations and achievements will inspire you to do things you didn't think you could do and become more active, fit and healthy!

STYLE OF TRAINING


The style of training - I believe that when training or exercising the most important thing is to move correctly, in the way our body is designed to move. This means firing the right muscles in the right sequence, with a good range of motion and mobility of the joints.

I use the principles and theories of Crossfit by using functional and consistently varied exercise in high intensity circuits. It is a fantastic tool to use for general fitness and to develop a good base of core strength and conditioning. However I tailor my training on the specific goals and needs of my clients.

I believe in the importance of progression with training and nutrition. Learning how to do the basic fundamentals well at a high intensity and then look to increase the volume of training. Only making slow changes or tweaks each week or month to your diet so that you are able to adapt and ultimately adopt something that becomes more sustainable.

I see it that my job is not just to train and coach you in the gym but to inspire you to change your lifestyle to become more active, fit and healthy. Ones you start getting results, you will feel a lot better about yourself. Exercising and eating healthy will start to become a bit addictive and a bit like a drug. Not a bad thing to become addictive to!

Experience and qualifications - Most notably a 2:1 BSc Sport & Exercise Science at the University of Leeds, REPS level 3 Personal Trainer and Diploma in Sport massage theory. Over 7yrs experience Personal Training freelance and at Virgin Active. Over 8yrs experience of Ultra Endurance races / challenges.
